Let. it. Go!

Take a deep breath. Hold. Hold. Keep holding. Actually, just keep holding your breath until you pass out and your face turns blue. Sometimes life has us holding our breath, keeping all that stale air inside- too afraid to just exhale. If we do let it out, we’re afraid that something bad will happen (we’re not sure what, we just know it will!)

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” —Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

We’re all tongue holding, tiptoeing, subject avoiding, breath holding wusses. As per usual, Dumbledore is one step ahead. It can be so hard to stand your ground to someone dear, or to even tell them what’s bothering you. I do this far too often, and whatever is irking me at the time ends up festering into something worse until it all comes out like an avalanche or volcano eruption that destroys everything in its path.

So, what’s the trick? How do we stop this catastrophic event from happening? For me, it’s catching it before it worsens. I’m slowly, but surely, teaching myself to notice when something is bugging me and saying it out loud. Sometimes I feel like I’m whining or complaining, but in reality, I’m just speaking. I’m simply saying what I’m thinking- which is a truly freeing experience.

In conclusion, breathe. Let it out. Let it go, Let it go, can’t hold it back anymore!
